          OSFA 2008 Tentative Education Schedule           

 

            Friday classes at the hotel may consist of:

 

            Seven EMS classes and four fire or other classes.

 

                        The tentative EMS topics are Burns, Stroke, Cardiac Care, Medical Emergencies, Trauma,

                        Geriatric, Pediatric and possibly Airway Management.  Each topic will consist of a 50 - 60

                        minute presentation.  Detailed information will be published when courses are finalized.

                       

            Fire classes will consist of the following:

 

                        Division of EMS update on Fire & EMS

                        Planning and preparation for the City Manager, Trustee, or Administrator

                        Emergency Management for the Fire Service, Plain Talk

                        The Fire Service and Liability issues

                       

            Saturday classes are as follows at the Fire Academy:

 

          Firefighter Level Training    CE Credits issued.

 

            6 hr Basic Interior Fire Attack                                                        18 students    

            Students will get a classroom overview and participate in

            LP fires in the burn building, one and two room fire attack

            on the first and second floors. They will also use class A

            materials on the ground floor along with operating in a

            responding scenario.

 

            6 hr Specialized Fire Attack                                                             20 students

            Students will participate in the Mobile Fire Lab, classroom

            overview of fire behavior. LP vehicle fires, LP tank, and tow

            motor fires.

 

            6 hr Hydraulics and Water Flow - From Theory to Practice         25 students

            This class is being conducted in conjunction with the Akron

            Brass Company and Instructors from the University of Akron.

            We will cover classroom basics of fire hydraulics, water flow

            requirements, nozzles types and styles, and specialty water flow

            appliances.  This will be followed up with hands on operations

            On the fire ground and tower. No live fire, turn out gear required.


 

            6 hr Foam Operations and Tactics                                                  20 students

            Classroom overview of class A & B foam and CAFS.  Hands on

            application of the above using the correct tools for the job.

 

            3 hr Everybody Goes’ Home

 

            3 hr Hybrid Vehicles and safety procedures

 

            3 hr Electrical Safety

 

 

          Fire Instructor Level      CE Credits issued

 

          3 hr NFPA 1403 overview and walk through. Also an update         20 students

            on where we are with a specialized program for Ohio.

 

            3 hr Division of EMS update on Fire Training. We will cover          20 students

            the fire new rules related to teaching all State certified classes.

            An overview of each class will be given from the 36 hr to the

            FFI & FFII.

 

            Fire Inspector     CE Credits issued

 

          3 hr Fire code updates, Ohio Fire Code                                             20 students

 

            3 hr Fireworks displays and set up requirements                               20 students

 

          Fire Officer        CE Credits issued

 

          3 hr Command & Control of the Incident                                      20 students

            Fire officers will get a chance to participate in a simulated

            scenario using the IMT Trailer and your NIMS training.

            It is recommended that you have had NIMS 300 to participate

            in this class.

 

            3 hr. Fire Ground Safety and Command                                       20 students
